Spokane County Courthouse - 1895

County Courthouse

The architect for the Spokane County Courthouse, Willis A. Richey, was born in Ohio in 1861. It is amazing that Willis A. Richey didn't even go to school. He was trained by a correspondence course. The only reason he wanted to design and build the county courthouse, was because there was a prize for the most original design.

He used a French castle as the idea for the building. Finally they were done building it in 1895. It is now over 104 years old and it is worth over $4 million dollars. Willis Richey died in his sleep at age 75.
